The case file

Four interns each grabbed one case folder -- red, blue, green, yellow. The front desk logged four notes about the colors. Which intern carried the red folder?

The rule: Each clerk carried exactly one folder, and each folder went to exactly one clerk. All four notes are accurate.

The clues

1. Tessa Quinn and Alba Finch received different color families.
2. Grace Ivers did not receive the red folder.
3. Grace Ivers's folder was a warm color (red or yellow).
4. Tessa Quinn's folder was a cool color (blue or green).

The verdict

Alba Finch

Only Alba Finch can hold the red folder. Not Grace Ivers: if Grace Ivers carried the red folder, "Grace Ivers did not receive the red folder" could not be true. Not Tessa Quinn: if Tessa Quinn carried the red folder, "Tessa Quinn's folder was a cool color (blue or green)" could not be true. Not Ramon Cruz: if Ramon Cruz carried the red folder, "Tessa Quinn and Alba Finch received different color families" could not be true.
