What is correlation?

Correlation means two things tend to occur together.

It does not prove one causes the other: both could come from a third factor, or the direction could run backward.

When an argument leaps from "X and Y happen together" to "X causes Y," look for the answer that names the alternative cause or reverses the direction.

Strengthen questions do the reverse: they rule out the alternative cause to support the claimed link.
