What is counter-premise?

A counter-premise is evidence that points against the conclusion, which the argument then overcomes.

It often follows words like although or admittedly: the author concedes a point, then argues the conclusion holds anyway.

Role questions test counter-premises: the statement opposes the conclusion but the argument stands.
