Hasty Generalization: One Bad Taxi Ride

The flawed argument

After one rude taxi driver overcharged him, a tourist wrote online that taxi drivers in the whole country are dishonest.

Why it fails

A sample of one proves nothing about a population. The tourist's anger is understandable, but his conclusion reaches far beyond his evidence. General claims need representative evidence, not a single vivid story.

The answer

The flaw is hasty generalization: drawing a sweeping conclusion from one unrepresentative example.
