Circular Reasoning: The Trustworthy Report

The flawed argument

A company's press release said its safety report could be trusted because it was produced by the company's own trusted safety team.

Why it fails

The conclusion ("the report is trustworthy") is just the premise ("the team is trusted") restated. No independent reason is ever given. The argument goes in a circle and ends where it started.

The answer

The flaw is circular reasoning: the conclusion merely restates the premise instead of supporting it.
