Survivorship Bias: The Winners' Advice
The flawed argument
A business magazine interviewed ten startup founders who became billionaires and concluded that dropping out of college is the key to success.
Why it fails
The magazine only studied the survivors. It ignored the thousands of dropouts whose startups failed, and the graduates who succeeded. Studying only winners guarantees a distorted picture of what causes winning.
The answer
The flaw is survivorship bias: drawing conclusions from winners alone while ignoring everyone who failed.
