What is intermediate conclusion?

An intermediate conclusion is a claim that is both supported by premises and used to support the main conclusion.

It sits in the middle of the argument's chain: evidence below it, the final claim above it.

Main-point questions use intermediate conclusions as traps. The intermediate conclusion supports something further, so it is not the main point.
