What is only if?

Only if introduces a necessary condition. A only if B means: if A happens, B must hold.

The trap is reading it like plain if. A if B makes A the necessary condition; A only if B makes B the necessary condition.

Diagram it as A to B, then take the contrapositive: not B to not A.
